1000ml NP BioPearls Filter Media

NP BioPearls are an ideal filter media for Nitrate and Phosphate removal in aquariums.

These NP Biopearls are packaged in 500ml pouches. NP BioPearls are pelletized biodegradable polymers that remove nutrients from the water, mainly nitrate and phosphate, by converting them into bacteria. This keeps the aquarium water parameters closer to that seen in natural sea water.

The new formula NP Reducing BioPearls are composed of 100% pure biologically degradable polymers that can be placed in a fluidized filter or mini filter canister. The pellets will allow aerobic growth of bacteria which consequently will consume nitrate and phosphate simultaneously. The bacteria will use up the carbon from the BioPearls, whilst nitrogen and phosphorus are taken from the water as nitrate and (ortho)phosphate. This conversion of organic BioPearls (together with inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus) into microbial biomass is called immobilization. In addition, anaerobic layers will develop, resulting in additional denitrification.

To avoid the sensitive marine animals being unadapted for sharply reducing of NO3 and PO4, we recommend adding NP BioPellets in a successive way.

Caution:

Maintain sufficient water flow through the NP BioPearls, to prevent production of hydrogen sulfide gas.

The use of NP BioPearls in marine aquariums must be accompanied by the use of a protein skimmer to achieve the export of bacteria and assimilated nutrients. It is not necessary for the outlet of the filter containing pellets to be positioned near the intake of a protein skimmer, but it is necessary to have a protein skimmer running on the system.

The use of ozone and UV will negatively affect bacterial recruitment of the BioPearls and increase the maturation time of the filter. So we don’t recommend use of NP BioPearls with ozone and UV at the same time when cultivating bacteria.
